Psalm 147:1-11 ESV –
1 Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel.
3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
4 He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
5 Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure.
6 The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.
Almighty God, the Sovereign of all creation,
We praise You for who You are! You are God. You don’t need praise; You don’t need anything. We need to praise You. We need to remember that You are God, and You care for the world You have created. You know about our hurts. You know everything about us.
You are wise beyond measure, and You know what is best — from healing a broken heart to giving strength to endure the next trial. Your care and attention are so specific that You have named and numbered every star in every galaxy!
7 Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre!
8 He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills.
9 He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry.
10 His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man,
11 but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.
Father, thank You for creating music! Thank You for giving us an avenue to express our joy, our sorrow, our thankfulness.
Thank You for sustaining this planet. It is humbling to think that, without Your direct care, this planet would not exist for even a moment. That’s how dependent we are on You. How delusional to think that our human strength or mental acuity or political influence or economic potential or social conscience can be our salvation — it is You and You alone, Your steadfast love, Your covenant-keeping, everlasting, intentional, love and grace.
Thank You for Your love. Thank You for teaching us humility, though it is such a hard lesson. We need it, Lord. We need to remember that You are God; we are Your creation. You have saved us. You have a purpose for us. Show us Your ways, O Lord . . .(from Psalm 25)
