Psa 54:1 O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might.
2 O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah
4 Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.
5 He will return the evil to my enemies; in your faithfulness put an end to them.
6 With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you; I will give thanks to your name, O LORD, for it is good.
7 For he has delivered me from every trouble, and my eye has looked in triumph on my enemies.
Lord God, my Savior and my Rock,
Save me by Your name! What a privilege that You have allowed me to know Your name! What a mercy that You have preserved Your Word. I would be so adrift and hopeless without Your Word to teach me, to comfort me, to challenge me, to transform me. Your Word is my life!
And You are my helper and my Savior. You truly do uphold my life. You are Sovereign, and You reign over all. You see when I am discouraged and in pain; You know when I feel lonely and exhausted. You see all of it, and You reach down to comfort me by Your Word. Oh, make me diligent to turn to You and to Your Word for my comfort. Any other things do not satisfy. They just derail me and lead to hopelessness. I want You. I need You.
Father, You are good, and what You do is good. I must obey You despite what I feel. Obedience to Your Word does bring thankfulness and gratitude and praise. Even the ability to be thankful and to praise and to obey is because of Your mercy and grace, and not because of my own ability. I am completely helpless to obey You without Your mercy and grace. My hope is in You.
You have promised to deliver me from every trouble. Whether the deliverance is by removing me from the trial, or whether the deliverance is through Your constant presence and help through the trial — Your deliverance is assured because of Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness. You will be with me. You will never forsake me. You will always supply the grace to endure. Always.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; was blind, but now I see . . .
