My name is Misty Gilliland and I live in Southeast GA. I’ve been working full-time in law enforcement for eleven years and enjoy helping others. I’ve spent seven years in total as a criminal investigator and have enjoyed the work of piecing together challenging cases. I became a professing believer in Christ in 1999. Becoming a believer transformed me and changed the entire course of my life. Early in my walk of faith, I desired to know God and His Word more; though I struggled to engage in Bible study. I attended Liberty University and graduated in 2013 with a B.S. in Psychology and again in 2015 with an M.A. in Human Services Counseling & Executive Leadership. Being a Christian school, Liberty University helped to keep me in the Scriptures as I studied through my counseling program. As a result, I became passionate about biblical counseling and offer support through a counseling ministry at the church when needed.
In 2014, I was introduced to the Inductive Bible Study method and instantly became hooked. I loved learning to mark in my Bible and how to read the Scriptures for myself. Since my introduction, I’ve participated in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Jude, Galatians, Jonah, and 1 John and 2 & 3 John PUPs. My goal in time is to complete a thorough study of every book of the Bible. Studying the Bible for myself has been life-changing and heart-changing. I knew early on while learning the method that I wanted to also teach and help bring the Word to others who were searching like I was. I also have a strong interest in Christian apologetics and want to be a better defender of the faith and of the Word. I’ve spent the past several years under the teaching of a wonderfully gifted Bible study leader who has been a blessing in my life and who has also become a dear friend. I’ve been fortunate to have the discipleship and mentoring relationships with other great Bible study leaders and these relationships were fostered all through seeking to know God’s Word better! Inductive Bible Study has guided my efforts in biblical counseling and deepened my knowledge of God and my regard towards caring for His people.
In my spare time (when there is some), I enjoy spending time with friends, jogging and cycling, learning the guitar, and love being in the great outdoors. I have four dogs and am a genuine lover of animals. I enjoy fiction writing and drawing. When I can, I like to read classic literature, poetry, and the works of J. R. R. Tolkien, Cecil O. Kemp, Frank Peretti, and WWII-era memoirs. Some of my favorite classical works of fiction are Wuthering Heights, The Count of Montecristo, and Gulliver’s Travels. I enjoy many different types of music, but am a big fan of jazz, the blues, opera, and contemporary Christian music.
