I have my big sister Renee, to thank for leading me to the Lord at age 5. Although I had no idea whom I had said “yes” to at that age, my father faithfully took me to church where I learned about Jesus who gave His life for me. As a little girl whilst waiting for the adults to come out of church, I would pretend to be the preacher and deliver “sermons” to the cars in the parking lot! Little did I know that God had placed the love of teaching and His word in my heart to make that dream come true. After home-schooling my sons for 19 years, it was my turn to sit down at the dining room table as a distance student at Laidlaw Bible College. Our minister had tapped me on the shoulder and asked if I would consider training to be a lay preacher to serve the local church. My immediate answer was “yes!” Two years of hard work and much practical training later, I am now preaching to real people and not cars!
Having completed my studies, I felt the need for continued deep diving into the Scriptures. It was then that the Holy Spirit reminded me of my other sister, Louise, experience with Precept Bible studies in South Africa. I thought I would see if New Zealand offered the same – and signed up for the next available study. What an amazing experience inductive bible study has been for me! I continue to grow in my relationship with the Lord as I study His Word and am blessed to be able to participate with and learn from others in our group. Writing sermons is such a joy these days because of what I learn through my Precept studies.
The Lord gave Michael and I our life verse: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matt 6:33) I count it such a blessing to be able to open the word with others, seeking the kingdom and discovering the truth together.
