Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13 (NASB95)
Despite all of the craziness in our world, we do live in a most wonderful time in history. We can reflect on the first coming of Christ and celebrate the precise fulfillment of prophecy; while at the same time, we can anticipate His Second Coming with a sure and certain hope that what God has said He will do, He will do indeed!
In light of our expectation, we have some specific things to consider. Among other things, God has called us to be prepared, sober-minded and self-controlled while we are awaiting Jesus’ return. He hasn’t given us a to-do list, He’s given us a love list!
Have you ever noticed that love is typically lived out from a grateful and humble heart? It asks the question, “How can I demonstrate my gratitude?” One way is by fixing our hope completely on the grace that is going to be ours when Jesus is revealed at His Second Coming
It will only be in that very moment that we truly grasp the enormous grace we’ve been given. Until then, we must choose to plant our faith and focus on the truth revealed to us in the Word of God. Knowing that in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, Jesus will split the eastern sky and every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is LORD, to the glory of God the Father!
Living It Out – It is especially difficult during the holidays to keep our hope fixed. Our minds are typically set on Christmas lists or school events or shopping trips or even on the empty chair that reminds us of who’s missing from our Christmas table. Begin a thankful-heart list. Have a little faith that you are way more grateful than you realize; so grab a large sheet of paper, not a sticky note! This may seem elementary but it is powerful. Never underestimate the power of gratefulness and humility.
