Weekly Prayer 06.18.18

Psalm 119:1-8 ESV –
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
3 who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!
4 You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.
5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
6 Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
8 I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!

Father,
You are such a gracious, merciful God. You have not left us to ourselves, but have given us direction for life. Your laws are for our good; they are a demonstration of Your love and Your care and Your wisdom.
But, O Lord, we are so prone to rebel against Your law. We want our own way, we want to chart our own course. But we don’t consider that You are all-wise, and that You, as our Creator, do know what is best. We are so short-sighted, and selfish. We want what we want, when we want it, and we want to be free of consequence. Forgive us, Lord, for worshipping ourselves. Forgive us for trying to be God. Forgive us for exalting ourselves rather than submitting to You.
Thank You for Your forgiveness. Thank You for repentance. Thank You for establishing Your statutes. Thank You for loving us enough that You would give us boundaries.
Lord, so many do not know that Your laws are a demonstration of Your love and care for us. They do not know that You sent Your Son to fulfill the law and provide the perfect sacrifice for our rebellion against You. They are still trying to go their own way and come to You on their own merit. What folly! What hopelessness! Father, strengthen those You send to tell these hopeless ones of Your salvation. Open the hearts of those who call You Father, to be willing to go into all the world to take this good news . . .
Lord, You have not established Your law so that I can compete to earn Your favor. No, You have chosen me to be Your child, and I submit to Your authority as my God and my Savior. I obey You because I trust You. I know that You will never forsake me. You are my Father. . .
amen

Weekly Prayer 06.11.18

Psalm 119:89-96 ESV –

89 Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.

90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.

91 By your appointment they stand this day, for all things are your servants.

92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.

93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.

94 I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.

95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider your testimonies.

96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.

Father,

You are the Sovereign God of all creation, and You are my Father. What comfort! What true security! My soul is truly safe in Your care.

And, as surely as the sun rises in morning, as surely as the tides go high and low, as surely as the seasons change, that is how faithful You are to care for me. There is no circumstance that will happen to me, no affliction that will befall me, no opposition against me, that You will not be there every second, as my God, my Refuge, my Father.

And, Lord, I am not left to “hope in nothing” for You have given me Your Word. O God, Your Word is my life. I know it is a profound privilege that Your Word is so readily available to me. I pray for those who do not have such access to Your Word. I pray that You would soften hearts and give opportunity for Your Word to be given to my brothers and sisters who are being persecuted.

Father, please don’t let me take Your care for me for granted. I am Yours. I want to do Your will.

Amen

This week please pray for our brothers and sisters who are suffering in North Korea. Pray for the summit this week. Pray that God’s Word would be allowed in that country.
