Pursuing the Christ at Advent – Day 5

1 John 4:9-10, 14 CSB – 9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. … 14 And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent his Son as the world’s Savior.

God had a plan.

God is always at work. He is not reactionary, as in to anticipate or see a situation and then devise a plan of action. God does not need to “anticipate” — He knows all things

Isaiah 46:9-10 CSB – 9 “Remember what happened long ago, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and no one is like me. 10 “I declare the end from the beginning, and from long ago what is not yet done, saying: my plan will take place, and I will do all my will.

And a part of this world-wide, from past to present to future plan,

was to save me.

Yes, absolutely, to provide the means of salvation from the just wrath of God for anyone who would turn to Him and believe.

But the longer I study the Bible, the longer I learn about my God, the more I see how personal He is.

Philippians 2:5-8 CSB – 5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, 6 who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. 7 Instead he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, 8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross.

Romans 8:1-4 CSB – 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, 2 because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 What the law could not do since it was weakened by the flesh, God did. He condemned sin in the flesh by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh as a sin offering, 4 in order that the law’s requirement would be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

God himself accomplished my salvation. God himself saw my wretched condition as a slave to sin, and God himself provided the necessary remedy.

God with us. Emmanuel. God himself.

“My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross

My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross

Refrain:
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest Treasure,
Wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other.
My soul is satisfied in Him alone.

As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us
At the cross

I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the cross

Refrain

Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed – my ransom paid
At the cross

Refrain”
